On The Design Wall from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Now that I have caught up on many of my projects, I am able to get out a stash quilt I started earlier this year.

I went through all of my Kaffe Fassett stash and scraps and cut up enough big hexagons for the size quilt I wanted.  I used the Hex N More Ruler by Jaybird Designs. I also started cutting a few of the solid triangles I need.  Then life got in the way and these pretties were set aside.

I had an empty design wall (behind my longarm) so I put them all up so I can ...

New Kaffe! Pre-cuts, Yardage & Stephanie’s favorite prints from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

The latest Kaffe Fassett Collective fabric has arrived! We’ve got the new Neptune and Mars colorways in all the pre-cut variations.

Kaffe Fassett is the name everyone knows, but not everyone is aware that it is actually three men – Kaffe, Brandon Mably and Philip Jacobs – working together to make the designs and then Kaffe colors the designs to make them all work together.

With so many creators, the lines often contain 70 or more fabrics, which is A LOT to bring in. So I ordered 16 of my favorite prints from the line to bring in as yardage and ...

A Start from the Stash from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though 2022 is the year I am focusing on my UFO list, it is still important that I make a few quilts from my stash.  I have a lot of fabrics I need to use before I leave this life!

I decided to play with some of my Kaffe Fassett stash.  I used my Hex N More Ruler to cut a bunch of 8.5" Hexagons and some 4.5" triangles.  I think this is my favorite specialty ruler of all time.

The pieces will fit together like this.  Some of the hexagons will have the same color triangles ...

Oh Scrap! : Baskets from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been dealing with baskets this week!

I made ten more scrappy basket blocks from my Kaffe Fassett scraps.  I think that brings the total finished up to fourteen.  So that means I am almost halfway finished.

To make my HSTs, I love using my Bloc-Loc ruler.  But I know many scrap quilters are a fan of the Easy Angle ruler.  I am curious what method do you like using?

The other basket I had to deal with was this giant one filled with radishes from my garden.  I had well over five pounds!  I love planting radishes because ...

Another Colorful Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am definitely starting this year out with a bunch of colorful finishes.  This week I have another scrappy quilt made with my Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

For this quilt I used mostly warm colored scraps.  I chopped them all into 4.5" wide strips and just started sewing.

I pulled a cantaloupe colored background piece I bought at Connectng Threads last year.  I looked to see if they still have it but couldn't find it.  They always have lots of Blenders to choose from and rotate the patterns often.

This design is one of my Scrap-A-Pallooza designs.  I have ...

The First Finish of the Year from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I decided in early December, that I was going to take the last few of weeks of the month "off".  I was ready to call an end to the year.  So that meant I was able to spend quite a bit of time on my own projects.

So I am pleased to say, I already have a finish to share!

I think I shared the improv blocks I was making from some Kaffe Fassett scraps I had.  Each block started with a red square with blue, green and purple scraps added.

I had divided my Kaffe scraps up into cool ...

Oh Scrap! : Kaffe Scraps from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been busily sewing away on my Kaffe Fassett scraps.

I have been sewing up all the warmer colors into these colorful strips.  I thought I would go back and make one of my Scrap-A-Palooza designs.  I haven't made one of those in a long time!

The next step will be to add in the vertical sashing.  I still plan on using a light cantaloupe color.

If you read my initial post, you know I sorted my Kaffe scraps into warm and cool colors.  After sewing all the strips together, I still have a number of the warm ...

A Big Kaffe Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Over the last few months, I have made a concerted effort to try and finish some of the many UFOs I have hidden around my sewing room.

I think I cut the fabrics for this quilt back in early 2016.  This quilt is made using the block pattern I had published in an old Quilty magazine called Letters of Love.

When I cut the fabric, I wanted to use up some of the stash Kaffe Fassett prints I have collected for decades.  I used prints and shot cottons in fall colors.

I think I planned to use this quilt on ...

Oh Scrap! : In A Slump from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am finding myself in a bit of a creative slump right now.  2019 was a really busy year for me and I think I hit my limits around mid-December.  So for the past few weeks, I have just been focusing on tasks like housework and health so that I feel a bit more in control.

When I have felt like going into my sewing room, I have been working on my Kaffe Fassett orphan block project.  I decided to bring back the dark plum fabric I used in the center to the outside border.  I had a "tunnel" block ...

Oh Scrap! : Playing with Kaffe Bits from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

With the rush to prepare for the upcoming holidays, I haven't been able to spend too much time to sew this week. But I did work a bit on some of the orphan blocks that were left up on one of my design walls.

Here are the orphan blocks I pulled using Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
They were just placed up on the wall randomly.

I decided to start with these snowball blocks.  I framed them in a dark plum quilters linen.

I then circled them with some of the HSTs that were left over from a couple previous projects ...

Oh, I like this Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I decided to elbow my way onto my longarm between my client quilts and finish up my Kaffe Fassett scrap quilt.  I really like this one and wanted to see it finished.

The seeds for this scrap quilt were some Kaffe Fassett backing trimmings from a previous quilt.

I cut the large floral into a 4.5" x 6.5" rectangle.  Then I used scraps to create these fun 9.5" x 10.5" "tunnel" blocks.  Every block has the same floral and black fabric - after that, I just pulled coordinating strings from the scrap bins.

Here it is all ...
